Not wasting another thought about our various border debacles we got up early and explored León. Lu jogging , me searching for sim cards.

It seems every second building is a church here. Lu saw more than 10 on her run but a quick check revealed that there is a total of 26 in this tiny town.

This one in particular we liked more than the others.

Heading south our plan was to go to Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, get supplies in the supermarket and head to our little beach house. We told the guy renting it out we would be there by 1pm.
What we did not know at this point is how many exciting and beautiful distractions we would encounter on the way.

This one was quite an obvious one and we went out of our way for the first time to get a better look at it.

Nicaragua is often referred to as the land of volcanos and lakes and we soon found out why. Sometime you even get volcanos in the middle of a lake. We like those!

Extremely excited about everything around us , we checked the map and decided to go to a naturepark before getting supplies where you can swim in an old crater. The roads got worste and worste.

The occasional road block , just to make sure we keep our timetable.

Then this tree.

The fruits grow right at the stems, i had to get out and check in more detail.

Kept one to cut at a later stage.

Its inedible, bitter and weird. Still no idea what it could be.
After a 2 hour drive through puddles , cows , pigs and strange trees we arrived at the crater. It was nice but there is a weird amusement park built in front of it that gave the entire thing a bit of an absurd vibe.Sometimes the way is actually more enjoyable than the goal.

In good spirits we put on the radio and got back on the road to Managua.
This one is for my dear Mayra, for understanding it best. And to la Bruja & el Gato for originally showing it to me!
Besos a todas ahi de estas bellezas!
Súbelo!

We did not see much of Managua because we went in

Quick culture shock in the supermarket

And bags filled with supplies, back on a 50+ km long dirt round towards Popoyo.

This time we arrived just before sundown.

By the time we had the supplies in the house, it was incredibly dark outside, just a glimpse of the moon, here and there.

We immediately fell in love with the place!
