San Blas

Or rightly Guna Yala, formerly known as San Blas is an indigenous province in northeast Panama. Guna Yala is home to the indigenous people known as the Gunas.

The Guna Revolution refers to the events in 1925, in which the Guna Indians fought the ruling Panamanian authorities, who were attempting to force the Indians to adopt Hispanic culture by military action. During this revolution the Guna Yala territory seceded and operated as the short-lived Republic of Tule. Following mediation by the United States, the Guna re-united with Panama. The Gunas, with the support of the Panamanian government, created an autonomous territory called the Guna Yala district for the indigenous inhabitants which they would rule themselves.

We had to see this beautiful little island “state”. Our first attempt failed because of our damaged ignition coil.Stranded on the sizzling hot highway , we were lucky enough to encounter a technician who could not fix the problem ,but at least gave us a number for a towing service who brought us back to Panama City

Long story short here: We got towed, were lucky enough to find an ignition coil replacement from Mazda, put it in the same night, slept in Panama City and made our way back to Guna Yala the next afternoon.

Since there weren’t really any hotels we decided to tackle the extremely bad road the next morning and slept in this dodgy institution where the question when checking in was :” Por cuantas horas?”

We left extremely early the next morning to tackle the 2.5 hours drive over the worste road we have encountered so far. Beautiful but dodgy.

We had to meet our guy at 8 am at the little harbour at the end of the road and at the other side of these mountains

It turned out to be 8.30 or so but it did not matter since, due to the conditions of the road, everybody was late.

We obviously had the ideal bags to board a boat.

After an hour on the little boat we finally got to our hosts for the next days. And dammit we got lucky!

The boat was called „Tinto Mare“ .Made out of aluminum because the captain and his wife want to eventually go to the cold seas with it. Hernando and Monse.

Do not worry! We just didnt stay in Panama City but decided to get on a boat while we wait for our title to sell Jim. Very shitty to no connection what so ever. We are alive and very well. Will update all in detail and in good time.
