The road to Medellín

We left early from Mompox, Medellín being our destination. And even though quite long , it was a beautiful drive again

Seeing the beginning of the Andes, was confirmation that our tropical part of the trip is now officially over. A welcome change, mainly for humidity reasons.

Being 8,900 kilometers long , 200-700 km wide , with an average height of 4000 meters, the Cordillera de los Andes is the longest continental mountain range in the world.

These mountains will stay with us for the rest of the way. This only the glimpse of them.

There were also small interruptions along the way. Some short,

some slightly longer…

The longer ones gave us an opportunity to inspect the car and discover unexpected hitchhikers.

I was extremely excited with the red piña we found. It looked better than it tasted though.

After a 13 hour drive we came down the northern mountain pass into Medellín . Accompanied by thunder , lightning and heavy rains for the last 2 hours of the drive we were happy to fall asleep quickly.

We have a whole new city to explore and this time its one of the better ones on this planet. This time it is Medellín .
